The journey

Over two millennia, Sri Lanka’s kings raised colossal stupas, carved reclining Buddhas from granite and built pleasure gardens atop a sheer rock. This journey brings you face to face with that legacy — Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Sigiriya and Dambulla — before ending in the hill city of Kandy.

Each site is explored with a specialist guide at the quietest hours, with rest and long lunches in between. Evenings are spent in tranquil lodges set among paddy fields and lakes.

Shoulders and knees should be covered at temples; footwear and hats are removed before entering.
Climate
Coastal lowlands are warm year-round (27–31°C); the hill country is cool, especially at dawn — pack a light layer.
Currency
The Sri Lankan Rupee (LKR). Cards are widely accepted in hotels; carry small notes for markets and temples.

No mandatory vaccinations for most travellers. Drink bottled water and use mosquito repellent at dusk.
